Bikepack Canada was started in 2016 by adventure cyclist Ryan Correy. Ryan was a passionate cyclist and outdoor adventurer who hoped to boost bikepacking’s profile in Canada and bring together riders from across the country. Sadly, Ryan died in April 2018 at 35 years old, after being diagnosed with cancer just 9 months earlier. Read more about Ryan here.
After Ryan’s death, I decided to keep Bikepack Canada going, as both a tribute to Ryan and as part of my love and enjoyment of bikepacking. Like many of us, the adventures I crave most are the ones that take place on the seat of a bike, whether it’s exploring my Canadian Rockies backyard or taking off to destinations further afield. Bikepacking, for me, is a way to slow down (regardless of pace) from the intensity of life, sink into a purposeful rhythm, and soak up the simple yet wondrous moments it offers up.
